Citrus Cardamom Coffee Spritzers and Monday Mocktail Regrets
It has been months since I infused simple syrup with several botanicals (cardamom, rosemary, ginger, black pepper) and vowed to dedicate my Mondays to a new post, a theme even. Monday! Mocktail! I even added words to a picture. And then the Mondays slipped away one after the other and some weeks I was inspired to post on a Tuesday or even a Wednesday but I already added the words to the photo so I let it languish. But then this morning, Monday morning! I remembered that is this is a really tasty spritzer, as equally suited for a sultry hot weekend morning as this overcast Monday, and I made one, and took no pictures and it was good.
Bubbles, spice, caffeine, and cool. Once you make the simple syrup as easy as one two three…four. And simple syrups are, well, simple. Approximately one part sugar to one part water, optional flavors- you can read about some of my past infusions here (rhubarb, black pepper) or here (ginger) or here (jalapeño lime)- and all variety of cocktails and mocktails await. I love to make tiny batches that allow me to experiment with no regrets. If I felt the same way about short stories as I do about simple syrups and infusions my world would be a far better place.
Today I vow to commit to a sip. Today I vow that these four paragraphs will be the beginning not the end. Today I vow to experiment without regrets.
Cheers, santé, salut. May your Monday be a Friday in disguise.
