Whose a red head? Santa! According to Rankin and Bass -the definitive authorities on all the pop culture Christmas origin stories. Christmas elves seem to trend ginger too. I’ve seen Elf that Elf is crazy!
Some of my favorite people are red heads. Some of my favorite people are crazy.
But you can enjoy this crazy red head any and all seasons, holiday or no.
Feel free to eliminate the red wine or substitute regular lemon for the Meyer lemon and/or whiskey for the brandy.
the crazy red head- a ginger brandy sour with red wine
a ginger, brandy, meyer lemon, take on the new york sour. Feel free to substitute regular lemon for meyer lemon if they are not in season, or whiskey for the brandy if that’s your jam.
Ingredients
- 1 ounce fresh meyer lemon juice
- 1.5 ounces brandy
- .5 ounce ginger simple syrup
- .5 ounce dry red wine
Instructions
- to make the ginger simple syrup combine 1 tablespoon minced or crushed or grated ginger ( you can use fresh or a ginger paste like gourmet garden ) and a half cup sugar with a half cup of boiling water, stir until the sugar is completely dissolved and let sit for at least 15 minutes
- combine the 1 ounce fresh meyer lemon juice, 1.5 ounces brandy, and .5 ounce ginger simple syrup in a shaker over ice shake vigorously and strain into your glass of choice
- using a spoon to help for a layer slowly pour the .5 ounce dry red wine (give or take) over the top to make that ginger a red head
- enjoy
Notes
This ginger is also delicious without it’s red head.
