Rich, thick, and strong- balanced between booze, sweet and spicy. This little morsel is the perfect stormy day companion.
This not, however, the sort of ‘recipe’ you should try if you want to get things done.
Heat+Chocolate+Booze=snuggle up on the couch and listen to the rain smack against the window panes, light a fire, put on the warm socks, read a chapter or two of your current book (in my case, Timothy Egan’s Short Nights of the Shadow Catcher. As much as I loved The Big Burn I’m surprised it took me so many years to read some of his other titles, and I only did that because I was searching for Jennifer Egan…) and take a snooze.
Choc Shots- easy hot chocolate shooter or toddy
ingredients
- 3 Tablespoons Sugar- your choice, but I like coconut sugar or brown sugar best
- 2 Tablespoons unsweetened Cocoa powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 cup cream
- 1-2 ounces booze of choice, pretty much all the brown ones will work. I made the toddy with ginger infused rum and the shooter with brandy.
directions
- in a medium bowl slurry together everything but the booze, this is your base. Enough base to make two todays or four shooters.
- for the toddy combine 2 ounces base, two ounces booze, and four ounces hot water (or milk?!), stir to combine, and sip until done.
- for the shooter, heat one ounce of the base in a heat proof, 2-3 ounce shot glass (just 15 seconds or so in the microwave , you don’t want it to boil over, or explode.) and top with one ounce of brandy. shoot or sip. repeat once more.
