Sage simple syrup and fresh squeezed grapefruit juice take this tequila cocktail from no frills to sorta fancy. Add a sugared sage leaf as garnish and you’re one tiny clothes pin away from mixology.


Sage and Fresh Grapefruit Paloma
Tequila, fresh citrus, sage simple syrup, fizzy water.
Ingredients
- Tajin or Kosher salt
- 1 grapefruit wedge
- 2 oz. fresh grapefruit juice
- ½ oz. fresh lime juice
- ¼ oz. Sage simple syrup
- 2 oz. tequila
- 1-2 oz. club soda or seltzer
Sage simple syrup
- 3-4 fresh sage leaves
- 1/2 Cup granulated sugar
Instructions
Sage simple syrup
- Combine 1/2 cup sugar with 1/2 cup boiling water, stir to combine. Add 2-4 fresh sage leaves and let steep about one hour (or up to 3)3-4 fresh sage leaves, 1/2 Cup granulated sugar
Paloma Cocktail
- Pour some Tajin (or other chili lime salt) or plain kosher salt on a small plate. Rub 1/4 to 1/2 the outer rim of a 12-14 ounce glass with 1 grapefruit wedge; roll moistened rim of the glass in salt. Reserve the wedge for garnishTajin or Kosher salt
- Combine fresh grapefruit juice, fresh lime juice, and simple syrup in the salt-rimmed glass. Add tequila and ice, leaving enough room for fizzy water, stir briefly to combine and chill. - Garnish with the grapefruit wedge and a sugared sage leaf1 grapefruit wedge
