this post was created in collaboration with SeekOut Seltzer while this is a sponsored post it is with product that I believe in with a company that reflects my values. Plus, I really like their products. The opinions are entirely my own.
The paloma- a classic mexican cocktail with grapefruit, lime, tequila and a salt rim gets a refreshing update with SeekOut cucumber+juniper hard seltzer. Trust me on this one, it’s really good- the play between citrus, tequila, and the earthy sweet notes of the cucumber and juniper make this my go to hard seltzer cocktail.

Originally made with grapefruit soda, tequila, and lime, the history of the paloma is mostly mythic- alcademics has a great article and subsequent discussion (yes, you can read these comments!) about fake wikipedia entries and the history of Squirt grapefruit soda (there’s a timeline) but the gist is no one knows, like rum and coke or any highball with booze and soda the stories of the origin are just that stories.
So this paloma, sans soda with fresh juice and a very specific hard seltzer can write its own story- just like the salted rim on the original tall tales are optional but tequila is not.

some tips and tricks for the best paloma cocktail
Unless you need to vent and/or crave sticky fingersI do not recommend juicing your fruit like I do in the video below- you, of course, are free to substitute grapefruit and lime already in juice form. That works out to about 1 teaspoon lime (a fresh lime might give you more juice but it’s not as concentrated) and a half cup of grapefruit juice.
Salting the rim- wet the lip of the glass with a dab of juice or using a wedge of lime and allow to get sticky for a minute before you dip it in the salt- if you go straight in the salt (or sugar) will barely stick
Since this post is a collaboration I had the opportunity to try this with all the SeekOut flavors- you would think the citrusy options like key lime+mint or meyer lemon+raspberry would work better here. Nope. This is a case of opposites attract- of wearing complementary colors not being all matchy matchy.
If you want a cocktail using some of the other SeekOut Hard Seltzer flavors try
the not quite negroni with raspberry+meyer lemon
or
the pimms cup with key lime + mint
or
the session piña colada with pineapple+passion fruit
